چکیده

The aim of the study was to evaluate factors involved in tooth surface loss due to consumption of dried-roasted seeds. Data of tooth surface loss were collected from a group of 141 patients by clinical examination, interview and by getting the questionnaire regarding dietary factors, oral hygiene practices and pregnancy (for women) filled. No significant differences in tooth surface loss were found for patients with medical conditions. Tooth Surface Loss in all anterior teeth was related to age, vomiting and bruxism. Consumption of dried-roasted seeds resulted in significantly higher scores of Tooth Surface Loss in upper and lower central incisors and canines. It was concluded that the most important factors in Tooth Surface Loss were age, vomiting bruxism. Watermelon seeds have significant effect on the levels of tooth surface loss in central incisors and canine teeth.

Effect of Boiling and roasting on lipid quality, proximate composition, and mineral content of walnut seeds (Tetracarpidium conophorum) produced and commercialized in Kumba, South‐West Region Cameroon

The effect of boiling and roasting on the lipid quality, proximate composition, and mineral content of African walnut seeds (Tetracarpidium conophorum) was assessed. Results indicated that the quality of walnut oil significantly (p < .05) reduces with the treatments. Oils extracted from DBWN 60 min (Dried and boiled walnuts 60 min) and FBWN 60 min (Boiled fresh walnuts 60 min) were the most alt...

Effect of dried sunflower seeds on incisal edge abrasion: A rare case report

Tooth surface loss (TSL) is a complex phenomenon characterized by the loss of hard tooth structure at various locations of the teeth, usually due to more than one factor. TSL due to abrasion can be significant in patients consuming coarse, abrasive diet. The present case reports an interesting incisal edge abrasion in a female patient, attributed to a particular dietary behavior of long-term co...

Seed Priming Increases Germination and Seedling Quality in Antirrhinum, Dahlia, Impatiens, Salvia and Zinnia Seeds

This study was carried out to investigate the effect of hydropriming on seed germination and seedling growth of five different flower seed species (Antirrhinum, Dahlia, Impatiens, Salvia and Zinnia). Hydropriming (20oC, 24 h), surface dried or dried back afterwards, was found to increase germination percentage, seedling emergence and fresh and dry weight. In all species, the maximum advantage i...

Predicting Tooth Surface Loss Using Genetic Algorithms-Optimized Artificial Neural Networks

Our aim was to predict tooth surface loss in individuals without the need to conduct clinical examinations. Artificial neural networks (ANNs) were used to construct a mathematical model. Input data consisted of age, smoker status, type of tooth brush, brushing, and consumption of pickled food, fizzy drinks, orange, apple, lemon, and dried seeds. Output data were the sum of tooth surface loss sc...

Effect of Cassava Flour Characteristics on Properties of Cassava-Wheat-Maize Composite Bread Types

Replacement of wheat flour by other kinds of flour in bread making is economically important in South East Africa as wheat is mainly an imported commodity. Cassava is widely available in the region, but bread quality is impaired when large amounts of cassava are used in the bread formulation.
